This hydroponics certificate qualification provides sound knowledge of horticultural principles in the culture, use and management of plants - in various production situations at supervisory and management level, or as a business operator/owner.

It provides an understanding of modern technology and its application to growing plants, with emphasis on hydroponic production. Skills obtained throughout the course will enable you to set up your own business and feel confident consulting on the use of Hydroponics.

This course is designed to train people for supervisory or managerial positions in a "specific" industry sector.

The Advanced Certificate in Applied Management involves the following areas of work:

CORE STUDIES - 4 units of compulsory subjects for all students. This involves at least 400 hours.

STREAM STUDIES - stream units for the development of knowledge in a chosen specialisation or industry sector. This involves at least 300 hours of study.

PROJECT - a "management in the workplace project" of 200 hrs involving approved work experience in a small business.The project specifically aims to provide the student with the opportunity to apply and integrate skills and knowledge developed through various areas of formal study.

This particular course specialises in horticultural technology (hydroponics) management and supervision it concentrates on the horticulturally valuable crops, such as cut flowers and vegetables, on plant breeding; and on broad management and business skills needed to make a success of horticultural technology business.

WHAT IS AQUAPONICS?

Aquaponics is the integration of hydroponics with aquaculture technologies, it has also been referred to as Urban Agriculture.

• Hydroponics is the horticultural process of growing plants in mediums other than soil.
• Aquaculture is the culture of aquatic organisms (such as fish and crustaceans) for commercial purposes under controlled or partly controlled conditions.

Want to work in hydroponics? You will need more than just knowledge of hydroponic growing systems. This excellent and comprehensive course covers the general horticultural knowledge required for successful plant growing (irrelevant of the method) in the first 15 lessons then focuses on hydroponics in the second half.”

Core Units cover: Introduction to Plants, Plant Culture, Soils and Nutrition, Plant Identification and Use, Propagation & Pests, Diseases and Weeds. Stream studies cover hydroponic systems, nutrition management, greenhouse operation & management, conducting a trial, production processes for vegetables, berries, flowers, herbs etc, Harvest and Post Harvest techniques, plant breeding, etc

This 700 hr IARC accredited course that develops knowledge and skills in the application of modern technology to horticulture; with particular emphasis on hydroponics. This course is similar to other VHT002 horticulture certificates in its introductory (core) units, but devotes 50% of the course to topics specifically related to horticultural technology and hydroponics in particular.

This is a good starting point for those who have little experience in horticulture or hydroponics; whose main interest is in growing at home. Unlike our other courses, this course is NOT intended for commercial growing in any way.
