Genus: Lawsonia
Common Name: Henna
Family: Lythraceae
Appearance: Variable shrubs.
Flowers: Terminal panicles of flowers.
Features: The dried flowers are used as an orange dye (Henna).

Requirements: Well drained fertile slightly acid soil. Full or part sun in warm climates

Culture: Propagate by hardwood cuttings

Species & Varieties:

One species:

L. inermis (Henna Plant) -A variable shrub to 6m tall, with glossy dark green leaves and attractive pink/red scented flowers. This is the commercial source of 'henna' which is used in hair treatments. A white cultivar is available.
